Dokra Craft popularly known as “lost and found” crafts.Dokra art is practised by the tribals in West Bengal,Orissa and Chattisgarh.It is a labour intensive and time consuming process. The figures are handcrafted in copper and bronze based alloys using the lost wax technique. Dokra art is a beautiful form of tribal art that showcase the immense talent of tribal craftsmen.Various types if ornaments and brilliant home décor items, idols of Gods and Goddess can be made of dokra.Bikna village of Bankura district is the home to this majestic art.The casting of finely detailed metal artefacts by means of the ‘cire perdue’, or lost wax, technique is almost as old as settled civilisation.The technique is simple to describe but difficult to perfect.It involves six stages namely – Core making,Modelling,Moulding,De-waxing,Casting and finally Finishing.
